APPROACH
My approach to therapy is educational and highly personalized. Psychotherapy helps you learn about yourself, and learn about the things you do that ultimately get in the way of your self-interests. I believe that there is something important to learn about all aspects of a person, taking into account your particular temperament, social and family upbringing, personality style, cultural context, relationship history, and all the idiosyncrasies that make you, you.
In terms of style, I strive to be direct, sincere, emotionally accurate, and when appropriate, humorous. Therapy is a special relationship in which overwhelming feelings are held and explored in the process of discovering yourself. As the power of painful experience softens, more choices open to you, enabling you to reclaim a sense of empowerment and meet your needs in more adaptive and less painful ways.
Some phases of therapy are challenging, but many have found stable, long-lasting changes with this type of therapy, even when other treatment methods fail.
